Ralph G. Townsend, suspected of stabbing, shot by Binghamton police

“Police were dispatched to the 6 Miles St. residence about 8 p.m. Upon arrival, the first two officers got no response at the door but heard a female screaming, “He’s got a knife to my throat,” Zikuski said.

The officers forced entry and when they got in, saw the man — 53-year-old Ralph G. Townsend — stabbing a woman. One of the officers then shot the suspect twice, Zikuski said.

The officer was uninjured. Townsend and the woman involved in the domestic were both transported to area hospitals. The woman had life-threatening injuries from the stab wounds and the suspect had two gunshot wounds, but is expected to survive.”
