Easton, PA cops not disclosing information on shooting of Nelson A. Mayers (8/21)

“Nelson A. Mayers, 25, of the 600 block of West Berwick Street, will be issued a summons for a drug possession charge after an encounter with an officer led to the discovery of an undisclosed amount of heroin, court records say. The shooting occurred at 10:14 p.m. in the 600 block of West Wirebach Street, a South Side alley between Berwick and Lincoln Streets, police said. Police encountered Mayers at 10:15 p.m. in the 500 block of Centre Street, the block that intersects with the 600 block of West Wirebach Street, court records say.

Police at the time were investigating reports of gunshots at 9:38 p.m. in the 100 block of St. Joseph Street and 9:58 p.m. in the 400 block of Williams Street, both also on South Side. Investigators found evidence of gunfire at both scenes but have declined to specify what was found; no one was reported injured in those incidents. Relatives have linked Mayers to Tuesday night’s shooting, but police have yet to publicly identify him as the man wounded by the officer. Nor have investigators said what led to the shooting, including whether the man was armed. City police are investigating the shooting.”
