Unnamed man slayed by Azusa cop

“A man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Azusa early Monday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The shooting occurred about 12:40 a.m., immediately after an attempted robbery of an adult store in the 500 block of South Citrus Avenue, Sgt. Pauline Panis said. The officer was on patrol when a store clerk and customer flagged him down and said a man just tried to rob the store.

The officer attempted to detain the suspect, who was uncooperative and ran across the street, according to the Sheriff’s Department. The suspected robber reached for his waistband and the officer fired, striking him in the torso, Panis said.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The officer was not injured. The names of the officer and the suspected robber were not released.

The clerk told authorities that the man had acted as though he had a weapon and demanded cash but fled when he saw the officer,  officials said.”

So, after the victim fled, did the cop chase him down to execute him?
