“A police officer shot a man Sunday evening after a foot chase through the Kings Cross apartment complex on Ivanhoe Court, the Fayetteville Police Department reported.
The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and is expected to live, said Fayetteville Police Lt. Chris Davis. The department also withheld the name of the officer.
The incident started about 8:40 p.m. when the officer reported a suspicious vehicle on Covenwood Drive, which is in a neighborhood between Morganton and Yadkin roads.
The officer stopped the car on Morganton Road, Davis said. When the officer approached the driver, the man got out, hopped a low fence and ran into Kings Cross, Davis said.
The man ran through a parking lot and past apartment buildings into woods behind the apartments, he said.
The officer caught the man, and a struggle ensued, Davis said. Then the officer shot him, he said.”
