“Delaware authorities say a man shot by a New Castle County police officer had driven in the officer’s direction and had reached inside the center console of the car, where police recovered a firearm.
Police say 27-year-old James Lamont Green died of his injuries Friday, a day after being shot.
Police say Green had earlier fired a shot at a neighbor that missed, then fled in a Cadillac. Police stopped the car, but an officer said Green kept reaching toward the center console despite being ordered to display his hands. At one point, police say, Green turned the vehicle toward the officer and accelerated. He was shot and crashed his car.
Green’s family tells The News Journal of Wilmington that Green was heading to work and had avoided a fight.
