“Authorities identified the suspect in Thursday’s fatal officer-involved shooting in front of the Vacaville Police Department as 57-year-old Gustavo Pedro Moreno of Vacaville.
Police said that a “sweaty and disheveled” Moreno arrived at the police station’s lobby just after 3 p.m. and spoke with a records clerk saying his friend was in danger and insisting to see an officer. Moreno then left the lobby and the records clerk called for an officer to check on his well-being.
A Vacaville officer made contact with Moreno in the parking lot in front of the police station and City Hall at about 3:30 p.m.
Armed with a knife, Moreno approached the officer, yelling and making verbal threats to him, Vacaville police Lt. Ian Schmutzler said.
The officer ordered Moreno to drop the knife, but Moreno didn’t comply with the officer’s command and continued to close in of the officer. Fearing for his safety, the officer, whose name has not been released, fired two shots at Moreno, striking him in the chest, according to Schmutzler.”
