“The U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force had continuously searched for Retherford , a suspect in the July 24 death of Debra Striano in Three Oaks, until the early morning hours Wednesday.
Based on a citizen tip through Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, Retherford was seen the area of Laurel Drive. Members of the task force located Retherford at 1231 Laurel Drive in North Fort Myers, an address earlier considered as a possible location for him. Task Force Officers identified Retherford through a window sitting on a couch. Police said Retherford was armed and raised a weapon toward officers, they fired at Retheford striking him several times and killing him.
The task force consists of members from the U.S. Marshals Service, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Myers Police Department, and Cape Coral Police Department.”
Retherford was wanted for murder, but that, of course, is no excuse to execute him summarily. It must be remembered that even when alleged murderers are pursued and killed by cops, they are taken down by a force that represents an order that has killed countless more innocents than these individuals ever could have.
