“A police spokesperson said around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, officers on routine patrol were flagged down by a frantic woman who ran out in front of their patrol car outside a home on Esser Avenue. At the same time, a 911 call was made about the child having been assaulted.
The investigation has just started but on Thursday, Buffalo Police Chief Daniel Derenda said it appears the grandmother stabbed the four year old child. Police have identified the child as Roderick Geiger III, who is known as Manny in the neighborhood.
Police officers shot and killed the grandmother — who has been identified as Charlene Fears. They say she was covered in blood and wielding two butcher knives. After repeated requests for her to stop and drop her weapons, Derenda says Fears lunged at one of the officers who in turn fired two shots, killing the woman.”
