No reason given for officer killing victim in Glendale, AZ

“An officer-involved shooting Saturday left one man dead outside a Jack in the Box restaurant in south Glendale.

The identity of the dead man was not released. He appeared to be in his late 20s, early 30s, said Glendale Sgt. Brent Coombs. The police officer was uninjured, he said.

Coombs said the officer approached a reported stolen vehicle occupied by two adult males about 3:35 p.m., at the fast food chain at 59th Avenue and Colter Street. The unnamed passenger was in custody, Coombs said.

He said the officer had requested back-up when he discovered the car was stolen.

“We don’t know exactly what occurred yet with the driver’s aggression against the officer that he felt the need to draw his service weapon and fire,” Coombs said.
