“A man was shot and killed by police after the car he was inside allegedly rammed a police vehicle, authorities said Monday.
Police said they saw Brandon Payne, 23, of Lynn, walking with a gun before getting into a vehicle Sunday night around 9:30 p.m. They say they tried to stop that vehicle and another that was following it, but the vehicle Payne was riding inside rammed a police vehicle. Three Lynn officers and a Massachusetts state trooper opened fire, hitting Payne twice.
Payne was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where a spokeswoman for the Essex County district attorney’s office said he died Monday morning.”
“As she sat nearby in a plastic chair, Latisha Payne, Brandon’s younger sister, brushed away tears as she recalled her last interaction with her brother.
“His last words to me were, ‘I love you,’” she said. “’I love you, little sis.’”
In addition to being a protective brother, Brandon was a loving father of his three young children, said Latisha, 20.
“He was trying to get his life back together,” she said. “Trying to do good.”
