“In an unusually violent period for Vallejo police, seven officers on a staff of 93, have been involved in five shootings — four of them fatal — in the past six weeks.
By comparison, Vallejo police shot and killed two armed suspects in three years leading up to the recent string of officer-involved shootings between May 25 and the Fourth of July.
Other than “bad timing,” no explanation has emerged for this wave of officer-involved shootings in Solano County’s most crime-plagued city.
But a department spokesman on Thursday dismissed one public theory that some officers may be “hyper-sensitive” following the shooting death of their colleague, Officer Jim Capoot, last November. Capoot was killed in the line of duty while pursuing a bank robbery suspect in North Vallejo.”
